reaching out…asking for help

Reflection ~It’s so important to reach out…to ask for help. I was feeling some kind of way today. Being an activist is hard work and I definitely needed a break so I took it. Glad I did…it was a blessing because I know I’m standing on the shoulders of greatness but I’ve got to take a step back sometimes. Remember who’s really in charge: GOD.

Observation ~Who answered my call for help? The one and only, my amazing, incredible, phenomenal woman, my very own Faith, my daughter. Her wisdom is a balm to my Gilead. Thank YOU, Faith. I needed to hear what you have to say. I’m blessed to learn from you. Thank you for reminding me to pray and leave it all at the altar. I’m better now. Sill daring to be powerful and use my strength in the service of our vision…knowing, trusting, believing and receiving that the world will be a better place. We’ve got to keep blooming where we’re planted…using our time, talents and treasures to be and do good. I’m eternally grateful to The Creator from Whom all blessings flow.

Happy Father’s Day, Daddy!

Happy Father’s Day, Daddy! Our discussions over a bowl of cornflakes with bananas, ice cold milk, and sugar sprinkled on top are with me today. Those four newspapers you read every morning, especially the one you said was the most important, the Black-owned Chicago Defender, the Black history books you made sure I read…the book reports I had to write so you could make sure I understood what I was reading..what you wanted me to know…those lessons are with me today. The times you said, “I don’t allow no foolishness”… your standards of excellence guide me still. Your commitment to family still nurtures me. Most of all, your faith in The Creator’s sovereignty teaches me to lead from my heart, balanced with sound reasoning and logic, to live in alignment with Maat. Thank you for providing the structure I needed, the intellect I would depend on, the financial capability I would rely on, and the words you would always say whenever I left the house, “Be good” so I could do just that. You are a Beloved and Most Honorable Ancestor and when we say your name, we will always remember your goodness, understanding that you guide us still. Rest in eternal peace and power, Daddy. You done good. Your legacy endures. Ase/Amen.
